Toxic Household
Most take pride in caring for their home as it relates to caring themselves and family. Keeping a fresh smelling and apparently clean home is generally the rule. Would you believe that we are exposed to the most toxins, not outside, but inside of our homes? It’s true.
Household products can contain toxic ingredients that cause environmental pollution and can compromise your health. According to the EPA, household pollutants contained in furnishings, man-made building materials, personal care products, leaning chemicals and pesticides can cause diseases and even death. It would be almost impossible to avoid all but making a concerted effort to remove some is a big step towards taking back your wellness-one chemical at a time. Household risks are abundant but controllable.
Fragrance, with the exception of botanicals are all manmade, synthetic scents. Phthalates are used to help to extend the time that a scent can be smelled. That said, anything in your home besides those fresh flowers, that smell “good” to you are actually very bad for you! Take a look at the extensive list of ingredients on the labels on your cleaning products - dish detergent, laundry detergent, cleaners, polishes, air freshener, and disinfectants. In most cases, we have a hard time pronouncing the ingredients because they are chemicals. And let’s face it, we don’t even know what they do.
Natural solutions eliminate that guessing game. Products contents are recognizable and safe. Using essential oils and essential oil based products reduces the risk of harmful exposure and the effects exponentially.
Dryer sheets are known for reducing static cling, softening the load and making your laundry smell fresh.
A closer look: a dryer sheet is a piece of fabric which contains chemicals to break down the fabric fibers of your laundry when it is heated up. The scent adheres to your clothing giving it that “fresh smell”. Eventually you wear these clothes which are loaded with these synthetics and being in direct contact with your largest organ, your skin, and is then absorbed into your body creating toxic build up. Irritating trigger for eczema, psoriasis and other allergens. The natural solution is to use dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. Dryer balls are the size of tennis balls and are made of cotton or wool. Using multiple balls allows the dryer heat to circulate throughout the load thereby drying the clothes more efficiently. And if you are seeking a safe scent, spritz the balls with diluted therapeutic essential oil such as lavender or lemon.
