Why smelling good is not always good for YOU!
I know you’re probably thinking this is yet another plug for essential oils but this information is extremely important for YOUR HEALTH!!! It’s better for you to have information and make decisions for yourself instead of just being told what you should do for or use on your body.
According to The Guardian (https://tinyurl.com/78mk33kf), “About 4,000 chemicals are currently used to scent products, but you won’t find any of them listed on a label.
Fragrance formulations are considered a “trade secret” and therefore protected from disclosure – even to regulators or manufacturers. Instead one word, fragrance, appears on ingredients lists for countless cosmetics, personal care and cleaning products. A single scent may contain anywhere from 50 to 300 distinct chemicals.” WHAT???? Why in the world would a scent contain any chemicals, let alone that many for ONE scent?
“Three-quarters of the toxic chemicals detected in a test of 140 products came from fragrance, reported a 2018 BCPP (Breast Cancer Prevention Partners) study of personal care and cleaning brands. The chemicals identified were linked to chronic health issues, including cancer.”
Everyone is exposed to “fragrance” every day, but we know that females end up with a higher amount because of cosmetics and hair products. What do you think that is doing to the female population health wise? They go on further to say, “There are also exposure differences across racial lines. Black women and children have been found to have higher levels of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which could be tied to exposure from toxic chemicals in hair products. A 2018 study by the Silent Spring Institute assessing six types of African American hair products found 45 endocrine-disrupting or asthma-causing chemicals, with a fragrance marker called diethyl phthalate among the highest concentrations. Higher chemical exposures, especially at a young age, could be linked to certain health disparities between black and white women, some researchers theorize.”
At the end of the day, as I always say, you must be an advocate for yourself. You must be looking at labels and researching ingredients. You need to realize that things that are allowed in products that you purchase can be quite detrimental. At the end of the day, they are good for the company that is selling them. The government is not looking out for YOU. They are protecting the people and companies that help them. Please take the things that you’ve read here seriously. It’s important to you and your loved ones.
Until next time – Be your own health champion!
